How to use Root & Seed to get the most out of 2024 - new year, old stories, new meaning.

Despite our best intentions, January is riddled with new year's resolutions set and broken, “words of the year” proclaimed and forgotten (was it “calm” or “focus”...does it still count if I change it mid year??? ), the “in/out" memes on social media (fad or trend - we will see!). It feels like we just got started and somehow 1/12 of the year is already complete.

With 2024 squarely ahead, family mayhem gathering done (thank you kinkeepers!), there presents another opportunity for assessing what this year could look like. And not one that you might think is obvious coming from a platform focused on connection between people and generations.

Storytelling benefits the asker and the listener.

A by-product of our conversation prompts is that question askers often learn just as much about themselves - what they feel joy in hearing, where they see patterns and connectivity with generations before them, where you are triggered and might need some healing.  It’s all evidence and information gathering and can be helpful to assess a relationship and perhaps where you are on your mission to lead a life you truly desire.

How about a solo act of asking the right questions?

Yes, we mean literally interviewing yourself. What if diving deeper into your stories from your past, your reflection on the present, and hopes for the future is exactly what you need right now?  We wish a pair of brilliant entrepreneurs created a platform that did just that - stitched together the past, present and future…. :)

In all seriousness, we have heard that Root & Seed community members have successfully used our Memoir prompts to recall and reflect on their stories solo - that is by themselves, with the cards and web app dig deepers cued up ready to go. Paired with the idea of what sentiments, activities, and goals you desire for the year ahead, the act of recalling a story and time that reminds you that it’s in you, can be reassuring and familiar and maybe the exact boost you need.

Our favourite prompts

Invite in more play: Recall an adventure with your siblings.

Be conscious about your legacy: What advice or wisdom do you want to pass down?

Remind yourself of your strength: What was the most difficult decision you ever had to make?

Document your goals: What are some of your hopes and dreams for the future?

More meaningful connection: What are some of the most important relationships in your life?

Part self therapy, part reflective, part manifesting in nature, the act of recalling your stories can be cathartic and releasing, paving way for a renewed focus on the year ahead. By resurfacing the stories, you bask in the warmth of nostalgia and provide an opportunity to reframe the tales that have added to the textures and nuances to your one precious life.

There’s no right way. Just pick a question and begin. Happy 2024 folks!
